Life of Pie.
I am not generally this dumb but it took me second watching
of the film to realize what exactly it is supposed to say. Still when
I think back I am not very sure what it was meant to be. If I have to talk
about meaning of movie then it certainly is in its last sentence by Irfaan Khan,
"And so it is with God". In my
opinion any form of art is very personal, it not only depicts physical objective
appearance of it but also the thought which is communicated from creators mind
to that of viewers. Sometimes when u sees nice photo or a painting, what is more
important than that painting is the thought behind it which was in its creators
mind. This thought is directly penetrated in viewers mind like a flash of light. And that’s
true success of that particular piece of art. Life of pie does same thing it
hits some unknown chord of your heart without being aware of it and keeps u
wondering what exactly it was.
Best part about movie is its silent pauses when there is
constant screen show going on. Aang lee preserves movies introspective tone by
not adding “and then I was thinking….blah blah” kinds of dialogues when there
is something going on in Piscine @ Pies mind, thus leaving viewers to think
what he/she might have thought had he/she been in Pies place. This is Where
Aang gives movie a different horizon altogether. And thus again re uttering the
message "And so it is with God".
If u revisit movie after its over thinking and placing Pie in
Richard Parkers place or may be considering Richard Parker to be Pies inner
Voice which made him survive for whatever number of days(more than number
survival is important) then u realise the beauty of movie and kind of message
it has tried to deliver. When he sees reflection of his own fears and ideas in
his soul (Richard Parkers eyes) that time Pie realizes that it’s far more than
that reflection it is about His own inner strength. Be it a God, Ishwer or
anything else to be named.
In short movie is great philosophical voyage along with Pie
to find your own Richard Parker inside you. Aang Lees beautiful cinematographic
presentation gives you feeling of long passionate kiss of tender cardamom
smelling lips, which keeps lingering in your mind more than on your lips and
keeps you wondering what it was all about. Like the flash of art from heart to
heart.. Leaving you empty still with the joy of some unknown fulfillment…!!
